Local man arrested Sunday faces wanton endangerment charges

Monday, July 1, 2013, 10 a.m. — A Bardstown man was arrested on wanton endangerment charges Sunday after an incident stemming from a complaint on Caldwell Avenue.
At 2:32 a.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013, Bardstown Police were dispatched to the area of 158 Caldwell Avenue on a complaint of a disorderly, intoxicated male armed with a 9mm handgun.
Witnesses told officers the suspect, dressed in a black shirt and blue jeans, fled the scene on foot. As officers pursued the subject, he was observed reaching into the front waistband of his pants while looking back at the officers. The suspect ran into a wooded area and officers were unable to locate him. Attempts to track the suspect with a sheriff’s office K-9 were unsuccessful.
Police received another complaint that the suspect returned to the Caldwell Avenue address; the man again fled on foot when officers arrived. During the second foot pursuit, officers observed the suspect throw away a handgun. When officers located the suspect he resisted arrest and was tased. Deputy Reece Riley sustained a minor injury to his upper lip which was treated at Flaget Hospital.
Police recovered a Bryco Jennings 9mm handgun, which had one round in the chamber and four rounds in the magazine.
Jarquin J. Esau, 20, Bardstown, was arrested and charged with wanton endangerment, first-degree; fleeing or evading police, first-degree (on foot); carrying a concealed weapon; assault, third-degree, police officer; and resisting arrest. Esau was also arrested on a fugitive warrant
