Wednesday,  July 3, 2013 — “Celebrate Cedar Creek” will be held Sunday, July 7, 2013, as The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church celebrates 232 years of ongoing ministry.

The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church is the oldest church of any denomination in Nelson County and the second oldest church of any denomination west of the Allegheny Mountains. Early church members met on the banks of Downs Run and Cedar Creek. The members could have established the oldest church, but, being patriotic, they waited until July 4, 1781 to legally constitute the church. This was five years after the Second Continental Congress unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

This Sunday, following the 11:00am worship service, a picnic sack lunch will be given to all whether dining in or ‘to-go’. Softball, corn hole, and other summertime games will be played. Historical items, the Wall of Honor with military photos, and other memorabilia will be on display in the Fellowship Hall. The community is invited to bring lawn chairs and come on out to “Celebrate Cedar Creek”.

Bible study for all age groups begins at 9:45am each Sunday. All are invited to participate. For more information, contact Kristen O’Bryan (502-460-0852), co-director of Sunday School which is sponsoring “Celebrate Cedar Creek”.

The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church is located 5 miles west of Bardstown off Boston Road (Hwy 62) on Bellwood Road (Hwy 733).
