FitzGerald is ‘Brooks & Co.’ guest Tuesday to discuss bill limiting eminent domain

STAFF REPORT

Monday, Feb. 24, 2014 — The Bluegrass Pipeline and efforts to reform the state’s eminent domain law are the focus of tomfitzgerald“Brooks & Company” airing from 11 to noon Tuesday morning on WBRT 1320 AM, 97.1 FM and streaming live online.

Tom FitzGerald, director of the Kentucky Resources Council, will be a special guest by telephone to discuss HB31, a bill that will tighten eminent domain law and give landowners the right to say “no” to projects like the Bluegrass Pipeline.

FitzGerald will preview the House Judiciary Committee meeting Wednesday, which will continue testimony regarding the Bluegrass Pipeline that ran for two hours last Wednesday afternoon.

Another topic for discussion is SB 99, also known as the AT&T bill, which seeks to release telephone carriers from their obligations as “carriers of last resort.” If SB 99 becomes law, opponents fear carriers could drop landline phone service in some areas and replace it with wireless service that may be of lower quality and reliability.
