Obituary: Dinwiddie Lampton Mathis, 87, Bardstown

Bardstown businessman Dinwiddie Lampton Mathis, 87, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at his home.

He was born Oct. 8, 1926, to the late Harlan F. and Roxie Blair Mathis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a graduate of the University of Kentucky and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a past president of Mago Construction Co., and a past director of Wilson and Muir Bank and Trust Co. He was a former member of the Bardstown City Council, and was an original Bardstown Planning and Zoning Commissioner.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabethann VanMeter and Ida Lee Clark; and one brother, Fabian Mathis.

He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Mathis Pickands (Cary) of West Palm Beach, Fla., two sons, Mark R. Mathis (Debi) and Joseph “Tico” Mathis (Tana Hardin), both of Bardstown; and three grandchildren, Nika Mathis, Anya Mathis, and Aria Mathis.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Bill Hammer as celebrant. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2014, and 8:30-11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Monday.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contribution to the New Life Center and the Nelson County Humane Society.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
