Monday, May 4, 2015, 9:45 a.m. — A Bardstown man was arrested early Monday morning on wanton endangerment charges after he allegedly fired a shotgun toward another person in an alley in the police_badgeHenrytown neighborhood.

Bardstown Police Officer Dalton Pinkston responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Pulliam Avenue at 12:05 a.m. Monday. The victim was walking in the alley between Pulliam and Moore and saw a man with short dark hair wearing a black t-shirt holding a gun. The man pointed the gun in the victim’s direction and fired the weapon. The victim hurriedly left the area and heard two more shots from the area where she had observed the man with the weapon. Nelson County Dispatch received two additional calls from neighbors of shots being fired in the area.

While investigating the complaint, officers located a recently fired shotgun shell outside of a home at 615 Moore Ave. Officers interviewed a man who matched the description provided by the victim. Officers were given consent to search the man’s home, and located a 12-gauge pump shotgun and shotgun shells. Officers determined the shotgun had recently been fired.

Billy Gene Groce, 31, of Bardstown was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree wanton endangerment. While police were attempting to arrest Groce, a pit bull dog inside the home moved at Pinkston and Deputy Sheriff A. J. Lewis. Pinkston believed the dog was going to attack, and the dog was shot and killed inside the home.

The investigation is ongoing. Individuals with information about this incident are asked to contact Bardstown Police (502) 348-6811 or Nelson County Dispatch, (502) 348-3211.
