Obituary: Joseph Eugene ‘Tubby’ Thornsberry Sr., 82, New Haven
Joseph Eugene “Tubby” Thornsberry Sr., 82, of New Haven, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2015, at his home. He was born Sept. 16, 1932, in Nelson County. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a former president of APWU Local 2859. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Air Force and was a member of American Legion Post 42. He was a Catholic by faith.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Marian; his parents Bernard and Aline Thornsberry; one sister, Susie DeWeese; and one brother, Bernard Thornsberry, Jr.
He is survived by one daughter, Betty Thornsberry; one son, Joseph Eugene “Joey” Thornsberry Jr.; two sisters, Juanita Jones and Margaret Hagan; two brothers, James Marion “J.M.” Thornsberry and William Bernard Thornsberry; four grandchildren, William Scott Posing, Athene, Joseph Kenji, and Julie Thornsberry.
A memorial service is 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, at the Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven with burial in the St. Thomas Cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Nelson County and American Legion Post 42.
