Obituary: Walter Benham, 93, Bardstown

WALTER BENHAM

Walter Benham, 93, of Bardstown, died at 12:10 a.m., Tuesday, May 2, 2016 at the V.A. Medical Center in Louisville. He was a native of Washington County, born on Oct. 23, 1922, to the late James Alfred and Katie Breeding Benham. He was a member of the Willisburg Church Of God Of Prophecy; a retired employee of General Electric Co. of Louisville and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Chesser Benham on September 26, 1999; three sisters, Anna Mae Cheatham, Artie Strange and Maggie Thompson; and five brothers, Charlie Lee Benham, J. Norris Benham, James A. Benham, Ira Benham and Fred Benham.

Survivors include, one son, Tim Benham (Hope) of Bardstown; two granddaughters, Emily Benham and Katie Swann (Eric); two stepgranddaughters, Katherine Kuhl and Emma Kuhl; and five great-grandchildren, Eric Swann, Jr., Abel Swann, Aiden Swann, Jordan Jones and Jorgia Benham.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016, at the Willisburg Church Of God Of Prophecy with the Rev. Ron Ferrell and the Rev. Keith Creech, officiating.

Burial is in the Highland Memory Gardens at Mount Washington.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Willisburg Church Of God Of Prophecy.

The Carey & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
