Obituary: Joseph Leroy ‘Buddy’ Mudd, 78, Fredericktown
Joseph Leroy “Buddy” Mudd, 78, of Fredericktown, joined our loving God on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017. He was born Nov. 28, 1938, to Leo and Bernadette Mudd. He was a graduate of Fredericktown High School, and the day after his graduation in 1957, he was hired by the Tom Ballard Company (TEBCO), where he became president and was a loyal business partner for 60 years. The company built highways all over Kentucky, then followed the coal boom in the 70’s to Eastern Kentucky, where they operated coal-mining operations in Lawrence County.
He was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where he lectured, managed the cemetery, served on the Parish Council, and was instrumental in the construction of the Parish Center.
Buddy loved his life on his farm overlooking the valley. He loved the challenge of horse racing and was a partner in BMH Stables for 24 years.
He was preceded in death one daughter, Patricia Mudd; one son, John T. Mudd; and three sisters, Sr. Angela Mudd, SCN, Dot Boone, and Norma Mudd.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Ann Hamilton Mudd of Fredericktown; one son, David (Joanie) Mudd of Fredericktown; three daughters, Mary Ann (Tommy) Downs of Bardstown, Sally (Pat) McLaughlin of Lieper’s Fork, Tenn., and Jenny (David) Neel of Fredericktown; four sisters, Rose Smith, Margaret Edelen, Mary Mudd, and Rose Marie Taylor; one brother, Randy Mudd; and 10 grandchildren, Kate (Scott) Qualmann, Logan Mudd, Thomas Mudd, Lesley Downs, Davis Downs, Jeanie Downs, Jamie McLaughlin, Eliza McLaughlin, Izzy Neel, and Jack Neel.
The Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Matthew Hardesty officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, and 9-10:15 a.m. Wednesday at Barlow Funeral Home in Bardstown with a prayer service 8 p.m. Tuesday.
