Obituary: John Jasper ‘Jack’ Downs, 89, Bardstown

John Jasper “Jack” Downs, 89, of Bardstown, died Sunday, March 19, 2017, in Bardstown. He was born July 11, 1927, in Nelson County to the late Raymond Virgil and Mary Hudie Downs. He was a farmer, a retired employee of Jim Beam Distillery and a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann “Bobbie” Downs; one daughter, Aline Pittman; and one son, Tommy Ray Downs.

He is survived by two daughters, Hudie (Bill) Foster of Springfield and Sharon Lynn (David) Hall of Bardstown; three sons, Larry (Rachael) Downs and Leo (Gail) Downs, both of Bardstown and Terry Wayne (Tracy) Downs of Fairfield; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at St. Gregory Catholic Church with the Rev. Culpepper Elliott celebrant. Burial is in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2017 and 8:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Rd., Bardstown with a prayer service 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Active Day.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
