Tuesday, March 28, 2017, 2 p.m. — Two elementary school students were located by first-responders after a 2-1/2 hour search Tuesday afternoon after the girls apparently walked away from their school around midday.

A school official called to ask police to help locate the girls at about 12:30 p.m. Bardstown Police and the Bardstown Fire Department responded to the area where the juveniles were last seen — in the woods at the end of Limestone Boulevard. A K-9 officer with the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office was brought in to assist in the search, as was a helicopter from the Louisville Metro Police Department.

With the air unit’s assistance, the two girls were located by officers in the Wellington subdivision at about 3 p.m. They were treated at the scene by Nelson County EMS and then transported to Flaget Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.
