One dead after married couple suffer fall at Nelsonville Road home

Monday, April 4, 2017, 6 p.m. — The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office responded Tuesday morning for a death investigation in the 5600 block of Nelsonville Road.

According to a press release, at 9 a.m., Nelson County sheriff deputies and Nelson County EMS were dispatched to a home in the 5600 block of Nelsonville Road for two unresponsive adults laying in the yard. Officers found Jewell B. Allen, 87, dead in the front yard of her home on a steep hill with injuries that were consistent with a fall.

Her husband, Kenneth E. Allen, 91, was also on the ground conscious in the yard conscious but not communicating, also with injuries consistent from a fall. He was treated by EMS at the scene and then transported to Flaget Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

After an investigation by the sheriff’s office and Nelson County Coroner, Jewell B. Allen’s death appeared to be of natural causes stemming from a fall.
