Obituary: Lawrence O’Daniel, 88, Shepherdsville

LAWRENCE O’DANIEL

Lawrence O’Daniel, 88, of Shepherdsville, died Friday, June 16, 2017, at his home with his wife and family by his side after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. He was born Aug. 5, 1928, in Marion County. He was a former employee of Wood Mosaic Company in Louisville where he worked for 37 years. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. He dearly loved his family, gardening and animals and was a very hard worker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Greg and Eunice Lanham O’Daniel; three infant siblings, Mary Katherine and twins Barbara Ann and Bobby Gene; three brothers, Carl, Joseph Lee and Gregory, Jr.; and one grandson, Danny Lee O’Daniel.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years, Mary Ellen Miles O’Daniel; two daughters, Joan Riddell (Tom) and Sue O’Daniel, both of Louisville; three sons, Joseph O’Daniel (Kathy) of Henry County, Stanley O’Daniel (Cathy) of Oldham County and Danny O’Daniel (Nancy Moore) of Lebanon; two sisters, Geraldine Brooks and Theresa Bilke, both of Louisville; three brothers, Paul O’Daniel of Louisville, James O’Daniel of Lebanon and Tommy O’Daniel (Floretta) of Bradfordsville; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, Loretto, with the Rev. Bryan Lamberson officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 PM Monday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a 7 p.m. prayer service with Deacon Donald Coulter.

Pallbearers are Kurt Riddell, Kyle Riddell, Devin O’Daniel, Jordan O’Daniel, Cody O’Daniel and Billy O’Daniel.

Memorials donations may go to Hosparus, 3532 Ephraim McDowell Drive, Louisville 40205, or St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery fund, c/o Saint Francis of Assisi Church, PO Box 74, Loretto, KY 40037.

The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of arrangements.
