Humane Society of Nelson Co. receives grant from Ky. Cattlemen’s Foundation

Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017 — The Human Society of Nelson County was recently awarded a $450 grant by the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Foundation from the Animal Shelter Assistance program.

The Animal Shelter Assistance program is in its seventh year and was funded by the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Foundation.

Foundation Chairman, Harvey Mitchell recognizes the important role animal shelters serve in our communities and encourages everyone to get involved at the local level. Donations to national organizations do no go back and directly benefit these animals.

“Find out who your local shelter is and how you can help,” Mitchell said. “All cattlemen understand the need to take care of our animals and it is nice to support others who are doing the same thing.”

The Humane Society of Nelson County plans on using this grant to create safe drop-off pens for animals dropped off at the shelter after hours.

“This is something we have wanted to do for a long time,” stated Judy Cooke, the humane society’s executive director. “By allowing a safe place for people to drop off animals, we don’t have to worry about them roaming around the area, which keeps us all safer.”
