NCSO Deputy Hardin recognized for seat belt enforcement activities

Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017 — NCSO Deputy Jerry Hardin was presented with a uniquely embossed Louisville Slugger Tuesday morning, Aug. 22, 2017, as part of his induction into the 2017 Kentucky Department of Transportation Highway Safety All Stars.

Hardin earned the award based on his enforcement efforts of the state’s seat belt law. Between July 2016 and July 2017, Hardin issued 241 citations regarding seat beat use. His seat belt enforcement efforts led all others in the district, state officials said.

“Writing tickets out there is part of the job and helping keep people safe is part of the job too,” he said. Hardin said that based on the accidents he has worked over the years, wearing a seat belt reduces injuries and saves lives.

Kentucky’s original seat belt law began in July 1994, and at the time, a seat belt violation was a secondary violation. Today, it is a primary violation for which an officer can stop a violator and issue a citation.

Hardin joined the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office in 1998 and is one of the department’s K-9 officers.
