Obituary: G.D. Lucky, 10, Cox’s Creek

LUCKY

G.D. Lucky, 10, of Cox’s Creek, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, at Central Kentucky Animal Clinic after a brief illness. He was born at the Nelson County Humane Society in 2007 and was adopted by his first family while still a puppy. He returned to the humane society twice — the first time after he was picked up in Nelson County as a stray, and the second time when he was picked up as a stray in Bullitt County. Animal control officials in Bullitt County returned Lucky to Nelson County. It was during this  return to Nelson County he was nicknamed “Gosh Damn Lucky.”

It was after his return to Nelson County that he met his forever family in July 2010. On their first meeting, the short-haired golden retriever/lab/Heinz 57 mix played it cool, refusing to show more than passing interest in the humans — until they walked up to his cage and spoke to him. He quickly endeared himself to the humans; once he adopted them, he spent many hours over the next couple of years training them with patience, love and loyalty.

He enjoyed laying in the grass on sunny Spring days keeping watch on the world around him from his hill overlooking Cox’s Creek.

He is survived by his human family, Jim and Tammy Brooks of Cox’s Creek; their children, Elijah Brooks of Cox’s Creek, and Katie Brooks of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and his extended family of human relatives whose company he enjoyed.

Cremation was chosen by the family.

The family would like to thank Central Kentucky Animal Clinic for their care and compassion.

Memorial donations may be made in Lucky’s name to the Nelson County Humane Society.

The Borden Pet Crematory & Memorial Center of louisville was in charge of arrangements.
