Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017 — Daniel Ballou, the Chief Circuit Court Judge for Kentucky’s 34th Judicial Circuit, has announced that he is running for the Supreme Court of Kentucky in the state’s 3rd judicial district — the seat being vacated by Justice Daniel Venters.

“The political climate as of late is chaotic and sometimes confusing to say the least, but the one stable and consistent standard we have is our constitution,” Ballou said recently in his announcement. “The integrity of our founding document can never be diminished.

“I have dedicated my life to defending the constitution and our way of life in America and in our Commonwealth. I believe in applying the law fairly, evenly, and without prejudice. And I believe we need people of high character as well as courage to serve on the highest court in Kentucky.”

Ballou is currently the Chief Circuit Court Judge for the 34th Judicial Circuit serving McCreary and Whitley Counties in southern Kentucky. He was elected in 2007 and re-elected in 2014. From January 2003 to November 2007, Ballou served as District Judge. Prior to that, he was a law clerk for Judge Eugene Siler Jr. who served on the 6th Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals.

Ballou earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky and his law degree from the University of Mississippi. As a former active duty Marine Sergeant and a retired Major from the United States Marine Corps Reserve, Ballou served honorably in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He lives in Whitley County and is married to Angie Partin Ballou.

Nelson County is the northwestern most county in the state’s 27-county 3rd Supreme Court district.
