Obituary: William Forrest ‘Bill’ Luckett Jr., 86, Bardstown

William Forrest “Bill” Luckett Jr., 86, of Bardstown, died peacefully surrounded by his family Tuesday, Sept, 12, 2017, at his residence. He was born Sept. 17, 1930, in Marion County to the late William Forrest Sr. and Margaret Ann Spalding Luckett.

During his early life, he served two tours of duty in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by General Electric Appliance Park for 19 years, while also selling cars at the Sympson Motor Company in Bardstown. In 1967, he began his journey to becoming a well-known Realtor and soon after started the Bill Luckett Real Estate & Auction Company. Bill was also a partner in the Luckett & Luckett Insurance Company and during that time, he served on the Kentucky Democratic Board Association. He served as Nelson County Master Commissioner for 20 years, during that time he served one term as vice president of the Kentucky Master Commissioner Association. After much involvement with Nelson County, he retired as the last Master Commissioner in the state of Kentucky that was not required to have a law degree.

Whether he was at the race track, having coffee at Pat’s Restaurant, spending time with his sweetheart Wahseka, being a loving father to his four children or spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, his time here on earth impacted many, and he will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Schilling, Mary George Cody and Frances Marie Luckett; one brother, Spalding Luckett; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Luckett; three brothers-in-law, Wally Schilling, Bill Cody and Ignatius Ballard; and one grandson, Jude Patrick Luckett.

He is survived by his sweetheart of 65 years, Mary Wahseka Mudd Luckett of Bardstown; one daughter, Gloria Luckett (Chuck) Smith; three sons, William Forrest ( Billy) Luckett III, Joseph Sidney (Kristie) Luckett, Patrick Stuart (Jenny) Luckett, all of Bardstown; four sisters, Cecilia Ballard of Loretto, Rita (Ed) Demyan of Louisville, Betty (Mike) Canan of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and Audrey Luckett of Mount Washington; two brothers, Bobby (Ursula) Luckett of Lexington and Jay L. (Arva) Luckett of Prospect; nine grandchildren, Charles Rapier (Maggie) Smith III, Lesley Smith, Brittany Luckett, Morgan Luckett, Katelyn Luckett, Matthew Luckett, Hayden Luckett, Gabe Luckett and Owen Luckett; and three great-grandchildren, Addie Smith, Charlie Smith and Lee Marie Luckett.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at The Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw and the Rev. Joseph Batcheldor officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, and after 8:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with a prayers service 6 p.m. Sunday.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Flaget Cancer Center, 4359 New Shepherdsville Road, Bardstown KY 40004.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, is in charge of arrangements.
