Thefts prompt request for Louisville Rd. residents to watch their mail boxes

Monday, Oct. 16, 2017 — The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office and postal inspectors with the United States Postal Service are investigating the theft of mail matter from mail boxes along Louisville Road.

According to Nelson County Sheriff Ed Mattingly, an individual or individuals went through mail boxes along Louisville Road on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, opening some of the mail and then throwing the letters out along Louisville Road. So far there are no reports of this happening in other areas. The section of Louisville Road affected was served by the Cox’s Creek post office.

“We are requesting residents be vigilant,” Mattingly said in an email. “Empty your box promptly, and if you see anything contact Nelson County Dispatch at 348-3211.”
