Council welcomes new officers, receives cable TV retransmission rate update

Wednesday Dec. 13, 2017 — The City of Bardstown Police Department welcomed its two newest officers Tuesday night at the start of the city council’s regular meeting.
Police Chief Kim Kraeszig introduced Officer Andrew Pile and Officer Jeff Decker. Pile’s first shift was on Sunday; Decker was starting his first shift Tuesday evening after the council meeting. Both men graduated last Friday from the police academy at Eastern Kentucky University at Richmond.
The new officers training will continue, Kraeszig said. They both will ride with training officers for the next 12 weeks.
CABLE TV RATES. City Engineer Jeff Mills explained to the council how that the proposed increases in retransmission fees with four Louisville broadcast stations will mean cable subscribers will see rate increases on their bills starting in February.
How much of an increase is yet to determined, as negotiations are still under way, Mills said. The final rates should be presented at the council’s Dec. 26 meeting. Mills gave the council members a possible range of programming costs per the current negotiations.
The retransmission fees will not affect the cable TV system budget, he explained. That’s because the costs are pass-throughs — costs that are passed on directly to cable subscribers.
If the city cannot come to terms with one or more of the Louisville stations, the city cable system will by law have to drop the station.
In other business, the council:
— approved a bid of $61,086 for painting and coating filter unit 2 at the city’s water treatment plant.
— received an update from Chief Kim Kraeszig on hiring additional officers.
— Interim Chief Charles Montgomery updated the council on preparations for the 2018 ISO inspection.
— HR Director Greg Ashworth updated the council on the fire chief selection process.
— heard that the city will advertise for bids for the chloramine conversion at the water treatment plant. The plan is to convert the treatment plant from a chlorine disinfection process to a chloramine system.
