Election 2018: Todd Harper files as a Republican for Nelson County Sheriff

Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 — Cox’s Creek resident Todd Harper is the first Republican and the fourth candidate to file for the office of Nelson County Sheriff.

Harper filed his paperwork with the Nelson County Clerk’s office on Friday.

According to a press release, Harper’s 19-year law enforcement career includes stints as an officer with the Bardstown Police Department and the Nelson County Sheriff’s office. He is currently serving as a police training officer with the Louisville Metro Police Department. He’s been a member of the LMPD since 2008.

Harper and his wife Michelle have three children. The press release notes that Harper is a devoted Christian and presently serves as assistant pastor of Redeeming Grace Chapel in Bardstown

The press release offers insight into Harper’s law enforcement philosophy and plans for the sheriff’s office if he is elected.

He believes in justice for all people and will promote transparency, community, and unity. Harper is of the firm belief that crime within the county can be solved when working side-by-side with the community and maintaining an open line of communication with residents. He will maintain an open-door policy within the Sheriff’s office and share information with the public as freely and openly as possible.

Harper’s plan includes appointing a deputy who will act as a public relations officer to the media and a liaison to all social media outlets. Sharing immediate, real time information with the public is of utmost importance in solving crime, and social media has proven to be an effective means of doing this. The people of Nelson County are key to crime solving in the area, and it is Harper’s desire to mend any disconnect between law enforcement and the community. He believes he will be inheriting some fine deputies, and together with them, he intends to put a premium on community relations.

In consideration of electing Todd Harper to be the next sheriff of Nelson County, voters can have faith they will be electing a man of integrity; one who has a strong work ethic and an unwavering sense of commitment to the citizens of Nelson county.
