Obituary: Erman Parrish McClaskey, 101, Bardstown

Erman Parrish McClaskey, 101, of Bardstown, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at Windsor Gardens in Bardstown. She was born Nov. 4, 1916, in Boston to the late Thomas Foster Parrish and Lillie Weller Parrish.

She graduated from Boston High School and Bryan-Stratton School of Business in Louisville. She was employed by the Nelson County A.S.C. Office. While stationed with her husband at Fort Stewart, Ga., during World War II, she worked in the offices of Henry Ford’s plantation. She also worked for a time as secretary at Boston Elementary School.

She was an accomplished seamstress, quilter, and enjoyed ceramics at the Boston Community Center with lifelong friends. The Community Center she supported and felt was vital to the children and people of Boston. She was a member and deaconess of Boston Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Booker McClaskey; one son and daughter-in-law, Stewart and Ella Mae McClaskey; one brother, Thomas Weller Parrish; and one nephew, John H. Geoghegan III.

She is survived by her son, Allen (Linda) McClaskey of Florence; two daughters, Marcia (Minor) Harmon and Jane (John) Swarts, both of Bardstown; one sister, Fern Geoghegan of Boston; seven grandchildren, Wayne McClaskey and Daniel McClaskey, both of Boston, Christian Swarts, Leslie (Chris) Girdley, Sarah (Blake) Gies, all of Bardstown, Allen (Cortney) Harmon of Lebanon, and Laura Swarts of Louisville; and great-grandchildren, Chase Girdley, Cole Girdley, Gunner Girdley, Aydan McClaskey, Henley Harmon, and Baby Gies, who is arriving any day.

The funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at Barlow Funeral Home with the Rev. John Powell officiating. Burial is in the Highview Cemetery in Chaplin.

Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may go to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the donor’s favorite charity.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
