Obituary: Mary Ethel Spalding Borders, 73, Springfield

Mary Ethel Spalding Borders, 73, of Grundy Avenue, Springfield, died at 6:45 a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2018 at her home. She was born Sept. 9, 1944 in Nelson County to the late Marvin and Roseleen Hutchins Spalding. She was a member of the St. Dominic Catholic Church, a former employee of the Cowden Manufacturing Company and was a retired employee of St. Catharine Motherhouse having retired in 1982.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Joseph B. Spalding.

Survivors include her husband, Paul O. Borders; four daughters, Pam Wheatley (Perry) and Amanda Hodgens (Terry), both of Springfield, Patricia Taylor (Terry) of Campbellsville and Phyllis Borders of Lexington; one son, Paul C. Borders of Springfield; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at St. Dominic Catholic Church with the Rev. Culpepper Elliott officiating. Burial is at St. Rose Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2018, at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jerri Byrd, Stephanie Graham, Quintin Borders, Tiffany Wheatley, Matalee Borders, Madison Hodgens, Michael Borders, Braydon Borders and Ava Borders.

Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Borders, Taylor Wheatley, Perry Wheatley, Terry Hodgens, Paul O’Bryan and David Wright.

Carey & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
