Friday, May 11, 2018 — A Bardstown City Schools employee has been arrested after police say he was involved in an inappropriate relationship with an underage student.

DEVIN LEE YOCUM

Devin Lee Yocum, 37, was arrested on charges that include sodomy, third-degree; possession or viewing matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor; tampering with a witness. Yocum also faces a failure to appear charge from a 2017 traffic case.

Following his arrest, Yocum was subsequently fired from his job as head coach of the Bardstown Middle School girls team, and an assistant coach at the high school.

WDRB reported that on two occasions, Yocum had a 17-year-old female student perform a sex act on him. He is also accused of sending a nude image of himself to her cell phone.

During a police interview with the victim, Yocum allegedly called her on the phone, “with intent to affect the testimony of the witness.”

Police say Yocum ultimately admitted to the sex acts and to sending the pornographic image to the student.

Yocum was arrested and held in the Nelson County Jail.

The Bardstown City Schools released the following statement after Yocum’s arrest:

“The school district received credible information of an alleged inappropriate relationship between a classified (non-teaching) employee and a student. The school district notified law enforcement and immediately suspended the employee while additional information was gathered and the matter was investigated by police.

The employee was subsequently terminated immediately due to alleged ‘inappropriate/unprofessional behavior with a student,’ which is a violation of School Board policy.

Because this is an ongoing investigation and in the hands of law enforcement the School District cannot comment further on the matter.”
