Obituary: Robert Eugene ‘Gene’ Wright, 86, Elizabethtown

Robert Eugene “Gene” Wright, 86, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. He was born in New Haven to Robert and Alice Puckett Wright. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church, Upton Masonic Lodge F&AM 76, and American Legion Post 113 in Elizabethtown. He was a retired federal employee, a retired postal worker at Fort Knox and a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia “Pat” Wright, and his parents.

He is survived by his daughter, Cathy (Hunter) Wright Cornett of Lexington; one son, Robert “Bob” M. Wright of Elizabethtown; one sister, Velma Devine of Gilbert, Ark.; five grandchildren, Matthew (Jessie) Wright, Alexandra Cornett, Makayle Wright, Taylor Wright, and Andersen Cornett; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral is noon Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Manakee Funeral Home in Sonora with Dr. Bill Langley officiating. Burial is in the Sonora Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2018, and 11 to noon Saturday at the funeral home with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Manakee Funeral Home in Sonora is in charge of arrangements.
