Springfield man arrested, charged in robbery of Bardstown pawn shop

Wednesday, May 30, 2018 — A Springfield man suspected of robbing a Bardstown pawn shop was arrested Tuesday in Washington County following a multi-vehicle car crash.

Just before 4 p.m. Tuesday, Bourbon City Pawn, 117 Banjo St., reported they were robbed by a male subject with a .22 caliber rifle. According to a police department press release, the suspect demanded money from the pawn shop employees. He took the money and slammed their phone on the floor so they could not call for police. The suspect fled in a grey Jeep Cherokee with a missing tail light.

Nelson County Dispatch issued an attempt to locate on the vehicle to city police and the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office. The Jeep was last seen traveling north on East John Rowan through the traffic light at Salem Drive.

Officers did not locate the vehicle until police in Washington County advised the Jeep was involved in a multi-vehicle crash and the driver fled the accident scene before he was taken into custody.

Kevin Purdom, 32, of Springfield, was arrested on charges of first-degree robbery. He was taken into custody and is lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
