Tuesday, June 12, 2018 — One of the most important steps in keeping bees is making sure the beehive is solidly and correctly assembled. One the surface this seems to be a pretty simple question, but once you start looking into the variety of beehive models and designs, it can be somewhat daunting.

From 6-7 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018, the Washington County Beekeepers will host a free basic beehive workshop at the Washington County Extension Office. During the workshop styles of beehives will be briefly discussed and a Langstroth beehive kit will be assembled to demonstrate the basic steps of constructing this widely used beehive structure. A completed, painted brood box will be on display and participants will be able to participate in some hands on assembly of the hive components.

If you are considering becoming a beekeeper, this is your opportunity to meet experienced local beekeepers, get answers to general beekeeping questions about equipment, bee colonies, honey production, and local beekeeping resources.
