Leitchfield man charged with murder in Wednesday shooting death

Thursday, June 21, 2018 — The Kentucky State Police have arrested a Leitchfield man on murder-related charges following a fatal shooting Wednesday evening at the man’s home.

At 10:13 p.m. Wednesday, KSP was contacted by the Leitchfield Police Department for help with a death investigation at a home on Lashley Street in Leitchfield. Investigators determined than a male victim had been shot multiple times at the home. He was transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

James Garrett, 39, of Leitchfield, contacted Grayson County Dispatch and reported he had shot someone at his home. Police picked Garrett up and after questioning him charged him with murder, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and robbery. Garrett was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

According to a KSP press release, an autopsy has been scheduled at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville.

The investigation is ongoing by KSP Detective Adam Hutchison.
