Monday, July 9, 2018 — David L. Reed, a resident of J.T. Riggs Road, announced this weekend on Facebook that he intends to withdrawn his name as an independent candidate for 1st District magistrate on Nelson Fiscal Court.

In his post, Reed explained that a family member’s probably upcoming surgery has made it “apparent to me that I will not have the time, energy, nor finances to continue with my campaign to become magistrate of District 1.”

“It is with regret that I announce that I will be withdrawing my name from the ballot. I will be contacting the county clerks office at my first opportunity to do so and filling the proper paperwork. I would like to thank all of you who urged me to run, and those who have supported me during this campaign,” he wrote in his post.

Reed filed as an independent candidate in March. In a social media post, he wrote that he decided to run for the office at the time because no Republican filed to oppose incumbent Magistrate Keith Metcalfe.

The 1st District covers the southernmost portions of Nelson County.
