Monday, Oct. 8, 2018 — Two Louisville residents were arrested Sunday evening after they were found by Nelson County deputies in a stolen Jeep with registration plates stolen from another state.

At about 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, Nelson County Deputies Chris Conway and Dalton Pinkston were looking for a suspicious black Jeep SUV on Tunnel Mill Road in the Chaplin area. A check of the license plate confirmed the vehicle was stolen.

Officers lost track of the Jeep, but while looking for it, the Jeep passed one of the deputies who was still in the Tunnel Mill Road area. Deputy Dalton Pinkston got behind the vehicle and a check of its license plate confirmed it was the suspected stolen vehicle. He conducted a traffic stop, and had the occupants outside the vehicle while waiting for backup units to arrive.

Officers arrested Kenneth Cravens, 53, and Jennifer Michele Smith, 38, both of Louisville. Cravens was charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000. He also had an outstanding warrant for a parole violation.

Smith was charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000; operating a vehicle with expired operators license; and receiving stolen property under $500. She also had an outstanding warrant for a parole violation.

The Jeep was later determined to have been stolen out of Jefferson County and carried stolen license plates from Kansas.

Cravens and Smith were lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
