Monday, Oct. 15, 2018 — The Washington County Beekeepers Association is hosting a Fall Bee Equipment Swap Meet from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at the Washington County Extension Office.
If you are looking for beekeeping equipment or have surplus or specialized beekeeping equipment to sell, outdoor table space is free on a first-come-first setup basis. Please note that ONLY serviceable equipment may be sold/traded and that you are responsible for providing your own tables and post-sale cleanup of your area.
At 11 a.m. there will be an “Orientation to Beekeeping” presentation which will briefly cover basic information about beekeeping and offer guidance on becoming a beekeeper. The presentation will include a question and answer session and provide recommendations on essential equipment, initial apiary setup tips, and recommended training.
The Kentucky State University Beehive Autoclave will also be set up to sterilize woodenware (beehive boxes and frames). This service sterilizes used equipment for reuse and is recommended for all used equipment purchased to promote healthy, newly established colonies and prevent the spread of diseases, mites, and wax moths.
The Washington County Extension Office is located at 245 Cooperate Drive, Springfield and can be reached at (859) 336-7741.
