Higdon gets new committee assignments, announces 2019 legislative coffees

By SEN. JIMMY HIGDON
14th District State Senator

Monday, Dec. 10, 2018 — The Kentucky Senate Majority recently held elections for our caucus’ leadership positions. While I was honored to serve as the Senate Majority President Pro Tem, Senator David Givens will re-assume the role of Pro Tem.

SEN. JIMMY HIGDON

Stepping aside from my leadership position opens up great opportunities for me to serve my constituents with new roles on our Senate committees. I was selected by the incoming Senate Leadership to serve as Vice-chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Transportation for the 2019 Legislative Session. I will be working with Senator Ernie Harris to draft the 2020 Transportation Budget. Additionally, I will serve as Chairman of the Public Pension Oversight Board, replacing outgoing Senator Joe Bowen. Senator Bowen leaves big shoes to fill dealing with arguably the toughest issue in Frankfort, pensions.

I will also have the privilege of serving as a member of the Senate Standing Committees on Economic Development, Tourism, & Labor; Education; Licensing, Occupations, & Administrative Regulations; and Veterans, Military Affairs, & Public Protection. With these new committee designations, I hope to continue to work to advance issues important to the citizens of the 14th District as I have for years.

As we approach a new year and a new legislative session, I wanted to remind everyone of my annual legislative coffee discussions. These events allow me to sit down and have personal conversations about the issues that concern my constituents. These legislative coffee discussions will take place on the following days:

  • Casey County Legislative Coffee, January 14, 2019 at 8:00 a.m., I will be joined by Representative Daniel Elliott. Meeting at Liberty City Hall, Council Room, 518 Middleburg St., Liberty, KY 42539
  • Spencer County Legislative Coffee, January 15, 2019 at 8:00 a.m., at the Chamber Building. I will be joined by Representative James Allen Tipton. Meeting at 19 East Main Street, Taylorsville, KY 40071
  • Nelson County Legislative Coffee, January 16, 2019 at 8:00 a.m., at the Fiscal Court Room. I will be joined by Representative Chad McCoy, event on 2nd Floor Old Courthouse, 1 Court Square, Bardstown, KY 40004
  • Marion County Legislative Coffee, January 17, 2019 at 8:00 a.m., I will be joined by Representative Brandon Reed. Meeting at Centre Square, 237 N. Spalding Ave., Lebanon, KY 40033

Lastly, the 17th Annual Josephine Nuckols “Mama Jo” Prayer Breakfast will be held on Saturday, January 26, at the Faith Worship Center located at 3160 Bloomfield Road in Bardstown. We will enjoy breakfast and fellowship beginning at 8:00 a.m. and the prayer service will begin at 9:00 a.m. Guest speaker Brother Lee Watts. Hosted by Pastor Freddy Riggs.
