Legislators gearing up for General Assembly session that kicks off Jan. 8

By SEN. JIMMY HIGDON
14th District State Senator

Friday, Dec. 29, 2018 — As we usher in the New Year and the 153rd Regular Session of the Kentucky General Assembly, I’m honored to once again represent our district.

SEN. JIMMY HIGDON

This will be my 17th year serving as a state legislator. While I always strive to do my very best representing the citizens of the 14th Senate District, I ask for your continued support as the General Assembly tackles difficult issues facing the Commonwealth. Your input is not only valued and appreciated, it’s genuinely needed. In 2019, I hope constituents across the state will be active and involved in the happenings of the General Assembly.

Part I of the 30-day Regular Session will take place Tuesday, January 8th to Friday, January 11th. The General Assembly will meet again for Part II on Tuesday, February 5th with an expected end date set for Friday, March 29th.

I urge you to take advantage of the several avenues through which you can stay informed. During session, the galleries of the Kentucky Senate and House chambers, as well as committee meeting rooms, are open to the public. For those who can’t make the trip to Frankfort, public legislative matters can be watched live on Kentucky Educational Television (KET), online at www.KET.org/legislature, and on the KET mobile app.

You can find daily committee meeting schedules, agendas, bill summaries, and other legislative materials on the Legislative Research Commission’s website at www.lrc.ky.gov. A recorded message containing information on the daily schedule for legislative committee meetings is also available by calling the Legislative Calendar Line at 1-800- 633-9650.

For ambitious students who want to be a part of this year’s legislative process, the senate offers page opportunities. Students interested should contact my office to make a formal request. Full-time page opportunities are also available. More information regarding both page programs can be found at www.lrc.ky.gov on the home page.

As an additional resource, I want to remind everyone of my annual legislative coffee discussions. These events allow me to sit down and have personal conversations about the issues that concern my constituents. These legislative coffee discussions will take place on the following days:
