Obituary: Joan Amelia Abell Walker, 89, Lebanon Junction

Joan Amelia Abell Walker, 89, of Lebanon Junction, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Lebanon Junction where she served as the treasurer, secretary and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the BCYMCA Board of Directors from 1991-1993, member of the Bullitt County Womens Club, member of the Kentucky World Organization of China Painters (KWOCP) and founding member of the Eames Guild of China Painters. Her interests included painting, crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, quilting, sewing, cooking and numerous other homemaking activities. She is deeply loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Richard Cooper Walker Sr.; one granddaughter, Sarah Jo Walker; one great-grandson, Mason Barnes; her parents, Benjamin Franklin and Ella Botto Elliott Abell; and one sister, Martha May Abell.

Survivors include two daughters, Dixie Ann Russavage and Elizabeth Jane Hall (Tony); three sons, Richard C. Walker, Jr. (Karla), John Elliott Walker (Tina) and Owen Benjamin Walker (Jeannie); 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral is 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, at the Kappel Funeral Home in Lebanon Junction with Bro. Tim Dennis officiating. Burial is in the Lebanon Junction City Cemetery.

Visitation is after 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to First Christian Church or the Eames Guild of China Painters.

Kappel Funeral Home in Lebanon Junction has been entrusted with the arrangements.
