Three arrested following investigation of break-ins at Balltown, Culvertown stores

Sunday, March 10, 2019 — Three people were arrested Friday, March 8, 2019, following a break-in at the M&M Get N Go food mart in the Balltown community, and an attempted break-in at Culver’s Country Kwik Mart in Culvertown.

Marco Contrevas Vasquez, Melissa Bartolomei and Theresa Bartolomei were arrested and face charges stemming from their alleged participation in a break-in Friday, March 8, 2019, at the M&M Get N Go in Balltown, and an attempted break-in at Culver’s Country Kwik Mart in Culvertown.

Marco Contrevas Vasquez, Melissa Bartolomei and Theresa Bartolomei were arrested following a police investigation in the break-ins, and on Friday, March 8, 2019, each was arrested on two counts of third-degree burglary and two counts of first-degree criminal mischief.

According to a sheriff’s office press release, deputies were dispatched to the M&M Get N Go in Balltown at about 2:46 a.m. Friday for an activated burglar alarm. The first deputy on the scene reported that the glass in one of the store’s front doors was broken out.

While deputies were investigating that break-in, Nelson County Dispatch advised of an active alarm at the Culver’s Country Kwik Mart further south on US31E. A door window was broken at Culver’s but no one entered the business.

Sheriff’s office detectives, following up on a Crimestopper’s tip, traveled to Magnolia on Friday and located a vehicle believed to have been involved in the break-ins. With the assistance of the LaRue County Sheriff’s Office, detectives obtained a search warrant and a search located shoes and clothing one of the break-in suspects was wearing.

The suspect vehicle was towed and searched, and officers located a black box taken from M&M, as well as a glove matching the one recovered at M&M. They also recovered a sledgehammer used in the break-ins, and a log chain.

The trio were lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
