NCHS senior named winner of 2nd District Congressional art competition

Tuesday, April 23, 2019 — Katie Hankins, a Nelson County High School senior, was the top winner announced Tuesday in the 2nd Congressional District Art Competition.

U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie hosted a reception Tuesday afternoon for the participating student artists and their parents at the Great Hall at My Old Kentucky Home State Park.

As winner of the contest, Hankins’ artwork — “Love of Abby” — will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the next year.

She and other Congressional district art competition winners will receive two tickets for each student and a parent or guardian to attend a winner’s reception at the U.S. Capitol later this year.

Jenna Head, last year’s 2nd Congressional District Art Competition, was second runner-up in this year’s competition.

Jenna Head, another NCHS senior, won second place overall in the contest this year. She was the overall winner in the contest last year. Her artwork will hang in Guthrie’s office in Bowling Green.

The third-place winner was Sierra Lynn Bosse’s “Blaze from Within,” a student at Central Hardin High School.

Two additional NCHS students — Jasmine Gowen and Brelayne Clutts — received honorable mentions for their artwork in the overall contest.

Brelayne Clutts’ art was also the winner of the Facebook portion of the contest.

Anna Wooten, a Thomas Nelson High School student, also received honorable mention in the contest.

  • Ward Academy Home School (Warren County)
