Thursday, May 9, 2019 — The Bardstown City Council approved a modified request at its working session Tuesday to close downtown streets for the annual Bourbon City Street Concert that will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2019. The city will also be celebrating National Bourbon Day that weekend as well.

The original request submitted by Bardstown Mainstreet asked to close the first two blocks of North Third Street and parts of both East and West Flaget at 10 a.m. on June 15. The council tabled that request after questions arose over the impact the 10 a.m. street closures might have on local businesses.

The council was concerned that downtown businesses may not appreciate closing the first two blocks of North Third or parts of East and West Flaget at mid-morning — particularly the banks, which stay open until noon. The council also was concerned with the flow of truck traffic from Bartons and the new quarry if the trucks can’t use North Third Street.

Mainstreet Executive Director Randi Mouser told the council Tuesday night the closure times will be moved from 10 a.m. back to 12 noon, which is was when streets were closed for the event last year.

Mouser told the council she was “in the process” of contacting Bartons and the Cedar Creek Rock Quarry so they will be aware of the need to re-route their trucks that day after the roads are closed.

In other business, the council:

— approved second and final reading of a budget amendment of the 2018-19 budget.

— heard Police Chief Kim Krezsig discuss her request to add two additional authorized police officer positions for a total of 30 officers. She is also requesting funds to purchase the mobile dispatching, record keeping and evidence tracking software, and for as many as six new police cars.

NEXT UP. The Bardstown City Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2019, in the council meeting room next to the Bardstown Rec. Center on Xavier Drive.
