Glasgow man walks away from drug rehab facility, breaks into homes, steals car

Friday, May 17, 2019 — A resident of the Isiaiah House drug rehabilitation center in Chaplin walked away from the facility Thursday morning, broke into two homes, stole one vehicle and attempted to steal a pickup truck before he was taken into custody by the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a police press release, James Joshua Robinson, 27, of Glasgow, walked away from the Isaiah House Thursday morning and attempted to break into a home at 40 Ed Pulliam Drive. He left this home and broke into the home next door at 20 Ed Pulliam Drive. He confronted the residents of the home and fled that home and ran down the street.
He allegedly broke into a home at 70 Ed Pulliam Drive, took a set of car keys and left. He stole a 2003 Acura from the driveway and drove through a yard, struck a culvert and ran through a field before reaching Richard Drive. He left the roadway again near the intersection of Lawrenceburg Road and Lawrenceburg Loop and ran over three sections of fence before the vehicle was disabled.
A passerby helped Robinson from the wrecked vehicle. Robinson attempted to steal a 2013 Ford pickup truck. The owner hung onto the truck as Robinson attempted to flee and successfully shut the turck off. He was pulled from the truck and climbed into a third vehicle before sheriff’s deputies arrived and took him into custody.
Robinson was charged with burglary, second-degree; criminal mischief, first-degree; criminal mischief, second-degree; theft by unlawful taking or disposition – auto – $500 or more but less than $10,000; wanton endangerment, first-degree; assault, first-degree; robbery, first-degree; menacing; disregarding
He was lodged in the Nelson County Jail. NCSO Detective Brandon Bryan is investigating the incident.
ISAIAH HOUSE RESPONSE. Isaiah House issued a statement Friday regarding the walk-off from their Chaplin facility.
“In light of recent events that involved our Chaplin facility, on behalf of The Executive Staff and Board, we are taking the nature of this incident very seriously.
“We had discussions through the night and a team meeting today. We would like to emphasize our commitment to keeping the communities we are located in safe.
“In addition to our current policy, we will be adding additional state certified peer support staffing that are trained in conflict resolution and de-escalation.
“When a client verbalizes intent or demonstrates any actions that indicate a potential walk off, a designated case team member will intervene, providing a client with options to safely discharge.
“We have also decided to engage a security consultant to train staff and contract for external security.
“While this incident was very serious in nature, addiction treatment continues to be part of the solution.
“We often deal with co-occurring disorders, which often includes mental health diagnosis along with substance use disorder.
“We are grateful that the community of Chaplin has decided to be part of the solution to an epidemic that is destroying our nation.
