Bardstown man indicted by Nelson County grand jury on sodomy charges

Wednesday, June 5, 2019 (Updated Friday, June 7, 2019)— A Bardstown man was indicted by a Nelson County grand jury Wednesday on five counts of third-degree sodomy.

James Phillip Cecil, 63, was charged with five counts of third-degree sodomy that the indictment alleges took place on unspecified dates between 2018 and 2019.

According to the Nelson County Jail Logs, Cecil was arrested Thursday afternoon and booked into the Nelson County Jail at 3:53 p.m. The jail logs show he was released about 10 minutes later.

According to the indictment, Cecil is alleged to have engaged in deviate sexual intercourse with another person less than 16 years old at five different times. According to state law, “deviate sexual intercourse” is defined as any act of sexual gratification involving the sex organs of one person and the mouth or anus of another.  It also means penetration of the anus of one person by a foreign object manipulated by another person.

Bail was set at $25,000 cash only, plus conditions.

Cecil is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges in Nelson Circuit Court at 9 a.m. June 20, 2019.
