Fairgoers no longer have to deal with Bluegrass Parkway detour traffic

NC GAZETTE / WBRT RADIO
STAFF REPORT

Thursday, July 18, 2019 — Nelson County residents heading to the Nelson County Fair tonight and the rest of this week won’t have to deal with extra traffic from the Bluegrass Parkway detour.

According to a Thusday afternoon text message from Judge Executive Dean Watts, the Department of Transportation completed the construction earlier Thursday on crossover lanes on the Bluegrass Parkway that will allow traffic to bypass the eastbound bridge over the Beech Fork River without detouring through Bardstown and on New Haven Road.

The eastbound bridge was closed last Saturday after state inspectors found critical issues with the bridge that required its immediate closure.

The Nelson County Fair runs through Saturday night.
