Obituary: Ruby Waddell, 96, Cox’s Creek

Ruby Waddell, 96, of Cox’s Creek, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019, at her residence. She was born Aug. 18, 1923, to the late Joe and Lena Mae Hubbard Bealmear Sr. She and her late husband were the former owners of Waddell’s Greenhouse. After closing the greenhouse, she went to work at Skaggs Distillery and Heaven Hill Distillery. She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Burl “Smokey” Waddell; three sisters, Jennie V. Hibbs, Geneva Mudd and Frances Crowe; and one brother, Joe Bealmear Jr.

She is survived by one son, Gary Waddell of Bardstown; two grandchildren, Greg (Victoria) Waddell of Richmond and Jamie Lee (Denny) Dillion of Cooper City, Fla.; one stepgrandson, Cameron Glickman; and two great-grandchildren, Brady Dillion and Devon Dillion.

The funeral is 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2019, at the Houghlin Greenwell Funeral Home with burial in the New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2019, at the funeral home.

The Houghlin Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
