Five injured after domestic dispute in vehicle causes crash in Bloomfield

Monday, Sept. 16, 2019 — Five people were injured in Bloomfield after a single-vehicle crash that allegedly resulted after the driver and her passenger had an argument while the vehicle was moving.

According to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, Katie Cook, 35, of Bloomfield was driving her 2015 Kia Optima east in the 300 block of Fairfield Hill Road when her car left the road, struck a utility pole and then a tree.

Her adult male passenger, Frank Sanger, 35, of Cox’s Creek, and a juvenile passenger were flown from the scene to University Hospital in Louisville with serious injuries. Cook and the other two juveniles in the car were treated at the scene by Nelson County EMS and transported to University Hospital for treatment.

Officers’ investigation determined that the accident was caused by a domestic altercation between Cook and Sanger. During the dispute, Sanger allegedly grabbed the steering wheel from Cook, causing the car to run off the road crash into the pole and the tree.

According to police, the case will be presented to an upcoming Nelson County Grand Jury for possible charges.

Nelson County Deputy Sheriff Phillip Dean is investigating the crash. The sheriff’s office was assisted by Nelson County EMS and the Northeast Nelson Fire Department.
