Obituary: Francis Garland Cecil, 88, Bardstown

Francis Garland Cecil, 88, of Bardstown, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, at his residence. He was born on May 5, 1931, to the late James Noel and Octavia Young Cecil. He was a farmer, a former employee of Heaven Hill Distillery retiring after 32 years in the warehouse and was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Regina Reid Cecil; three sisters, Eileen Cusick, Libby Ballard and Margaret Shain; and five brothers, Charlie Cecil, Earl Cecil, Rudolph Cecil, Louis J. Cecil, Hugh Cecil.

Survivors include his daughter, Joann(Carl) Sims of Loretto; two sons, Joseph Michael Cecil and Thomas Francis Cecil, both of Bardstown; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, at St. Thomas Catholic Church with the Reverend Jason Harris officiating. Burial is in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, and 8:30-9:30 Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. Wednesday prayer service with Deacon Sam Filiatreau.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
