Saturday, Nov. 10, 2019 — Hardin Memorial Hospital — and the recently opened Bardstown Medical Plaza on KY 245 near Corvins — will soon become a part of Baptist Health now that a lawsuit seeking to block the sale will be dropped.

The sale of HMH to Baptist was announced in August 2017, though the details were not announced until May 1, 2018. At that time, Hardin Fiscal Court owned the hospital, and had negotiated a $361.4 million sale of HMH and its assets to Baptist.

The sale was blocked by a former HMH physician, Dr. Larry Hall, who claimed that Hardin County government did not follow proper procedures while negotiating the sale of the hospital assets. The sale was initially set to close by Dec. 1, 2018, but Hall’s lawsuit held up the deal.

HARDIN CO. JUDGE EXECUTIVE HARRY BERRY

After circuit court and court of appeal rulings that upheld the sale of HMH to Baptist, Hall sought a re-hearing by the Kentucky Court of Appeals. But it was announced last week that both sides had agreed to drop their legal actions in the matter.

According to Hardin County Judge Executive Harry Berry, who serves as chairman of the HMH board of trustees, he expects the sale of HMH to Baptist to be completed as soon as possible, though a new closing date has not yet been announced.

The Bardstown Medical Plaza is currently owned by HMH and opened in August 2018. The 70,000 square foot facility is home to Family Medical Center, and includes lab and therapy services, an on-site radiologist and diagnostics, 3-D mammography and magnetic resonance imaging. Medical specialties available for patients include cardiology, foot and ankle care, sports medicine, orthopedics, pulmonology and critical care, urology, general and vascular surgery, and ear, nose and throat.
