Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 –– The Leapfrog Group has awarded Flaget Memorial Hospital, part of CHI Saint Joseph Health, an “A” rating on the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade scale for exceptional patient safety. This rating recognizes Flaget Memorial Hospital’s commitment to providing the latest and safest methods of treatment available.

The Leapfrog Safety Grade is becoming the gold standard for measuring patient safety, according to The New York Times, AARP Magazine and MSNBC.

“We are honored to be recognized as one of the safest hospitals in the country,” said Jennifer Nolan, president of Flaget Memorial Hospital. “This achievement would not have been possible without our team’s tireless dedication to quality and safety in caring for our patients.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade rates hospitals on patient safety measures, such as inpatient injuries, infections, and medical and medication errors. The safety grade credits hospitals that have strong procedures and protocols to prevent errors – such as strong nursing leadership and engagement, handwashing policies, use of bar code medication administration and patient experience measures, among others.

“Our patients’ safety during their stay with us is of paramount importance,” said Nolan. “The last thing a patient should worry about is a preventable accident or error when they are being treated, and we pride ourselves in our error prevention and patient safety.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a public service provided by The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization committed to improving quality, safety and transparency in the United States health care system.

Flaget Memorial Hospital, part of CHI Saint Joseph Health, is a 52-bed facility located in Bardstown, KY. Established in 1951 by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, the facility serves residents of Nelson, Hardin, Marion, Washington, Spencer, Bullitt and LaRue counties. The facility is also home to Nelson County’s first full-service cancer center.
