Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019 — Two people were seriously injured Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash in the 900 block of Taylorsville Road just north of Bloomfield that left the occupants of both vehicles trapped inside them.

According to a Nelson County Sheriff’s Office press release, a 1991 Chevrolet pickup truck operated by Michael Shoffner, 40, of Bloomfield, dropped off the edge of the roadway while traveling east on Taylorsville Road. Police say Shoffner overcorrected and crossed into the westbound lane, striking a 2014 Toyota SUV operated by Emily Tackett, 45, of Chaplin, head-on.

The Northeast Nelson Fire Department and the Taylorsville-Spencer County Fire Department responded to the scene to extricate the drivers. Nelson County EMS treated both drivers at the scene. Tackett was flown from the scene to University Hospital. Shoffner was taken by EMS to Flaget Memorial Hospital before he was later transferred to University Hospital.
