Monday, Dec. 2, 2019 — Nelsonville Road resident Philip Bischoff filed earlier today as a candidate for the Republican nomination for the 50th District state representative seat.

A Republican Party of Nelson County press release states that Bischoff “wants to give voters a conservative option” in the May 2020 primary.

According to the press release, Bischoff will avoid mud slinging and personal attacks. The release notes a list of issues that current 50th District state Rep. Chad McCoy supports that Bischoff would not, including legislation to raise the gas tax, voting against the bill that placed “In God We Trust” in schools, and opposing the death penalty.

Bischoff says he would have voted in favor of “In God We Trust” and is a proponent of the death penalty in Kentucky.

Additionally, Bishcoff is in favor of requiring voters to show a state or federal ID in order to vote.

His campaign will not accept money from political action committees, and donations from out-of-state and out-of-county donors.

The May primary is Tuesday, May 19, 2020.

The last day to file for political office to be on the May primary ballot is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2020.
