Routine traffic stop leads to foot pursuit, arrest of wanted Bloomfield man

Monday, Dec. 9, 2019 — On Friday afternoon, Bloomfield Police Chief Scott Dennis conducted a traffic stop on a 1998 black GMC SUV with the driver fled on foot behind a tobacco barn.

Deputies from the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office assisted with KSP Trooper Davis and surrounded the area. Deputy Jerry Hardin and his K-9 Willy apprehended the subject in a creek in the Bloomfield area.

The driver, William Keith Riggs, had three outstanding warrants for probation violation (for felony offense); failure to appear; and non-payment of court costs, fees for fines. New charges he faces include operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license; license to be in possession; no registration receipt; fleeing or evading police, first-degree (on foot), and assault third-degree, police or probation officer.

Riggs was lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
