Joseph Elmer Miles, 84, Loretto

Joseph Elmer Miles, 84, of Loretto, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.

Born May 17, 1927, in Indianapolis, he was a retired farmer and former employee of  Bird and Son Corporation in Bardstown.  He was also a veteran of the U. S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Vivian Mattingly Miles, and his parents, Joseph William “Lee” and Estelle Viola Gordon Miles.

Survivors include three daughters, Cindy Miles of Richmond, Cathy (Tim) Sidebottom of Springfield, Gayla (Rodney) Edlin  of Loretto; three sons, Billy (Terri) Miles, Eli and Dennis Miles, all of Loretto; one sister, Mary Roselina Osbourne of Louisville; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his longtime companion, Louise Gootee of Lexington.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Manton with the Rev. Chris Allegra celebrating. Burial is in the church cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with prayers at 7 p.m.
