Tuesday, May 6, 2025 — At its Tuesday meeting, Nelson Fiscal Court approved the sale of 12 acres of property in the Nelson County Industrial Park to M&M Property Holdings LLC for $635,000.

The sale was announced following the court’s executive session to discuss the terms of sale.

Judge-Executive Tim Hutchins discusses the sale of a 12-acre tract of industrial park land following an executive session at Tuesday’s fiscal court meeting.

According to the Kentucky Secretary of State’s office,, the buyer is holdings company headquartered on Parrish Drive in Bardstown.

OLD COURTHOUSE RENOVATIONS. After lengthy discussion regarding how the court will pay the costs, the magistrates approved the bid of $1.42 million from M&J Construction for renovations that will include the first floor of the Old Courthouse and update the building’s heating and air conditioning systems.

Judge-Executive Tim Hutchins said some of the equipment for the HVAC update won’t be delivered for 16 weeks. Due to the invasive nature of the work on the project, the second floor county employees will move to office space the county rents on Parkway Drive that now serves as office space for the Commonwealth’s Attorney office by July 1st.

New office space next to the Nelson County Justice Center is being renovated for the Commonwealth’s Attorney, and they will move out of the Parkway Drive offices and make space for the county employees.

The court’s first bids on the project came to almost $2 million back in December. The court was trying to approve the project in order to qualify the use of ARPA funds, but the bid was over the budget.

County Attorney Chip McKay holds one of the documents related to the sale of the industrial park property.

STATE CHAMP ROBOTICS TEAM. Nelson Fiscal Court recognized the state championship robotics team based at the Nelson County Schools UP Center.

The team, which included students from all county high schools, Nelson County Baptist School and homeschooled students, fielded a robotics team that — for the second year in a row — took top state honors.

Charlie Cantrill, one of the teachers involved in the program, said the program attracuts students with differing skills and challenges them to collaborate on the robotic projects.

Cantrill said the team’s robot was a floor spinner, designed to damage competing robots capabilities.

RURAL SECONDARY ROAD FUNDS. Representatives from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet told the court that the state’s rural secondary road program would provide funding to repave Howardstown Road, KY 247, all the way to its intersecion with KY52.

PAST DUE GARBAGE BILLS. The court heard a report that there are still past due garbage bills totaling $339,675.

Since collection efforts began late last year, $46,000 has bee collected so far.

Collection efforts are continuing, and Hutchins advised the county will work with property owners with delinquet garbage bills to set up payment plans or other arrangements.
