Obituary: David Cody Prewitt, 80, Bloomfield

David Cody Prewitt, 80, of Bloomfield, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, at Baptist Health Hardin. He was born Sept. 13, 1945, in Chaplin to the late Dewey and Ora Lee Bowman Prewitt.

He was a retired employee of General Electric and was a member of Chaplin Baptist Church. He was a craftsman and was known as “the tinkerer”. He enjoyed working with his hands and making toy carriages.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings, Ruby Ethel Morris, Bonnie P. Sweazy, Hansford “Hank” Prewitt, Marvin Prewitt, Bro. James Norris Prewitt, William Kenneth Prewitt and Harold Ray Prewitt.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Mattingly Prewitt; one daughter, Susan Mitchell of Bardstown; one son, Troy Prewitt of Bloomfield; one sister, Blanche Hardin of Chaplin; three grandchildren, Kayla (Tom) Brothers, Chance Mitchell and Cody Cornish; six great-grandchildren, Garrett, Everett, Gracelynn, Barrett, Kaysen and Hudson; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Bro. Mark Harrison and Bro. Tom Brothers officiating. Burial is in Highview Cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, at the funeral home.

The Houghlin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
